Scottish Executive deploys RoDIN24 solution

Applied Generics has successfully completed a major pilot deployment of the RoDIN24 road traffic information system for the Trunk Roads Network Management Division of the Scottish Executive. RoDIN24 accurately measures road traffic conditions in real-time via the anonymous sampling of the positions of mobile devices. This is the same technology that has successfully been deployed by Vodafone and LogicaCMG in The Netherlands.

Vodafone UK has provided support for the deployment of the Scottish Executive RoDIN24 system. RoDIN24 servers being co-located at Vodafone switching premises in the East of Scotland. The system has been operational since June 2004 with the evaluation scheduled to be completed before April 2005.

The implementation in Scotland is being used as a test-bed which will enable not only the Scottish Executive but also the wider UK transport community to evaluate the technology and its implications for aiding management of the national road networks.
